ITAD - IT Asset Disposition

By choosing Brainscape as their ITAD partner, organizations can dispose of their IT assets in a secure, sustainable, and cost-efficient manner, thereby contributing to greater circularity within the IT sector.

Below is an overview of the most frequently asked questions about ITAD.

How does your buy-back valuation work?

You register the devices, we check and grade them, and provide a competitive offer per device or per batch. Once you agree, we will make the payment and send you the certificates and detailed report. This allows you to combine financial gain with demonstrable compliance.

See buy-back.

How does your ITAD process work?

We start with a collection or your own delivery. Upon arrival, we register and label each item. This is followed by diagnosis, testing, and data wiping. Devices that meet the requirements are sent for reuse or refurbishment; the remaining items are recycled through certified partners. Afterwards, you will receive a processing certificate and, if selected, a detailed report per device or per batch. This gives you complete traceability.

How do you guarantee secure data removal and a comprehensive audit trail?

Data removal, or data wiping, is performed using audited tools. For each device, we provide verifiable evidence with the serial number or IMEI, date, operator, test status, and wipe result. This method supports your GDPR compliance and internal or external audits. Where wiping is not technically possible, we provide controlled destruction with supporting documentation.

What is the difference between reuse, refurbish, and recycle in your approach?

Reuse is immediate reuse when the item is in sufficiently good working order and has sufficient battery capacity.

Refurbish is repair and upgrade under quality control.

Recycle is dismantling by specialised partners when reuse is not possible.

Can you also remove data of defective devices?

Yes. Defective devices are also handled in accordance with procedure. If erasure is not feasible, controlled physical destruction is carried out by certified partners.

See Data wiping and Recycling.

Do you sell refurbished devices?

Yes. We deliver weekly to a network of regular B2B customers and via broker sites. Contact Sales for current availability.

Do you collect ink and toner cartridges, and how do you select them?

Yes. We sort by type and current value. We work with fixed price agreements and offer periodic sales lists.

See Ink & Toner.

Should ink and toner cartridges be kept in their original packaging?

Not mandatory, but recommended. A sturdy box or outer packaging limits transport damage and reduces the risk of rejection, which ultimately benefits the final yield.

Which types of ink and toner cartridges do you process exactly?

Our goal is maximum reuse. That is why we primarily collect refillable types. The list of refillable cartridges shows exactly which references are eligible.

If you bring in mixed streams, we will sort them and clearly indicate which items can be reused and which cannot. We dispose of non-reusable types as waste at cost price, so that you remain fully compliant.

Which ink and toner materials are not accepted?

Printer ribbons, empty toner cartridges and other small hazardous waste belong in the recycling centre. If they are delivered to us, we will reduce the payment by the processing fees for small hazardous waste and a fixed fee may be applied. This allows us to keep the flow safe and in compliance with regulations.

What happens to irreparable devices and batteries?

We selectively dismantle, handle batteries safely and work with certified recycling partners for maximum material recovery.

Which ICT devices do you accept for reuse or recycling?

Mobile phones, laptops, tablets, desktops and peripherals, including servers and network equipment, monitors, printers, cables, hard drives and ink and toner cartridges.

What happens to empty cartridges that are suitable for reuse?

Cartridges are visually and functionally inspected, cleaned and refilled. They then undergo a quality check. Only those that meet the quality standards are returned to the market as a reliable alternative to new products. You gain insight into volumes, reasons for rejection and reuse percentages achieved, so that you can include this information in your ESG and CSRD reporting.
