Reuse & Refurbishing
Brainscape extends the lifespan of electronic devices by safely taking them back, professionally repairing them and reusing them. This starts with correct intake. Through trade-in or buy-back, we safely take back IT equipment, determine its residual value and process everything in-house. The devices are then checked, cleaned and repaired where necessary so that they can regain their value within the circular chain. This approach saves raw materials and CO₂ and reduces electronic waste.
A comprehensive circular approach for your IT equipment
How it works
Safe return (Trade-in & Buy-back)
Devices arrive at Brainscape via two models:
- Trade-in: customers exchange devices during an upgrade or replacement.
- Buy-back: Brainscape buys back devices directly based on a transparent residual value assessment.
In both cases, we provide:
- Secure collection and registration
- Valuation
- Certified data wiping (ISO, WEEELAbex, GDPR-compliant)
- Full traceability and reporting
This guarantees that data remains protected and that materials enter the circular chain in a controlled manner.
Reuse & refurbishing.
After intake, devices are technically upgraded in accordance with our quality standards.
Our processes include:
- Thorough inspection and testing: battery capacity and functionality.
- Professional cleaning: in accordance with our quality and ISO guidelines.
- Replacement of parts: defective components are repaired or replaced.
- Quality guarantee: devices are made ready for use again, with documentation and reporting.
Refurbished devices perform reliably again, remain in use for longer and retain their value within the circular economy.
Ink cartridges and toners
Of the more than 8 million cartridges used in Belgium every year, up to 80 percent still end up in landfill. At Brainscape, cartridges are cleaned, refilled and reintroduced into the circular chain.
Reuse is our priority. That is why we focus first on cartridges that can be refilled.
Our process:
- Collection: via our recycling boxes or containers.
- Selection: cartridges that are suitable for reuse are cleaned and refilled.
- Recycling: cartridges that are no longer usable are recycled into secondary raw materials.
Why choose reuse?
- Reduces electronic waste and raw material consumption
- Extends the lifespan of devices by years
- Saves up to 80 percent CO₂ emissions compared to new production
- Makes high-quality technology more affordable
- Supports a concrete circular economy
Who is it for?
Our reuse and refurbishment services are available to businesses, schools, government bodies and dealers who want to manage their electronics sustainably. From small batches to large volumes, Brainscape always offers a tailor-made solution, with full reporting and certification.
In Europe, an estimated 300 to 500 million inkjet cartridges and 10 to 20 million toner cartridges are sold every year. Of these, 40 to 70 percent still end up in landfill instead of in the recycling chain.
