Medics without Vacation comprises about 400 doctors, nurses and paramedics who go to Africa every year during their holidays to train young doctors and nurses and operate on patients in D.R. Congo, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Benin, Tanzania, Cameroon, Burundi and Zambia. Medics without Vacation works exclusively with volunteers who during their spare time go on a mission to Africa. A mission usually comprises a doctor, an anaesthetist and a nurse and lasts 2.5 weeks on average. On www.medicswithoutvacation.be you can read the blogs of the teams in the field. In 2008, Medics without Vacation sent out 147 teams and 48 tonnes of medical equipment. In 2009, there will be 160 voluntary teams. All missions are co-ordinated from Belgium.
